The last two days were quite an adventure. First was the four hour car ride to the Newark airport, which would have been fine if I didn't have hips that like to cramp up awkwardly. I was sitting in the middle and ended up with my feet up on that little divider thats always under the middle person's legs. My right hip started to cramp up for the rest of the ride, and pretty much the rest of the day.
Then came the airport. Can we say 4 hours early???? We definitely had plenty of time to get through security, eat, and sit around before we got to do the same thing for ANOTHER six hours.
Things started to look up once we got on the plane. We had one of the fancy planes, with the personal touch screen TVs on the backs of the seats, and luck seemed to be with me since I had a window seat aaaaand the seat between another student and I was empty, perfect for spreading out and getting comfortable, at least until she showed up. An hour or two into the flight this woman, who apparently spilled water on her seat, took the empty seat between us. She smelled a little funny, which wasn't what bothered me. What bothered me was how she took up the entire arm rest between us, ended up sleeping partly on my seat, and when she was awake, leaning over me to look out the window, when it was pitch black....
Once we landed, we got on a bus to take a 45 minute bus ride to our hotel, aka an hour and half bus ride. Then, once we got to the hotel we had to kill time until 12 pm, since we had to wait for our rooms to be ready. We ate an early lunch and tried to stave off the sleepiness with coffee, which was futile. Once 11:30 rolled around most of us were sitting in the lobby, delirious from sleep, and really really really grouchy.
Once we got into our rooms, I just had the energy to take my shoes and socks off and fell into bed. I'm pretty sure I was asleep before my head hit the pillow. After a three hour nap, we got ready and went to dinner. We found this really cute place called Giraffe in an open air shopping center, it was delicious and the atmosphere was great. After, we took a peek around some shops, but we were too sleepy to really be interested.
After my first day here I have discovered two things: I should have packed rain boots, and am in a desperate search for some and my converters do not have the third prong, so until I find one with a hole for it, I will be unable to charge my computer.
What an adventure this is going to be.
